November 2004 - Appleton Refractive Surgeon Honored at American Academy of Ophthalmology for Outstanding Accomplishments and Contributions to Refractive Surgery

Appleton -. Avery Alexander, M.D., was one of three physicians in the country presented with an Accento Award by the German laser manufacturer, WaveLight Inc. during the annual American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Alexander was recognized for of his dedication and involvement in the advancement of refractive surgery and for his leadership in introducing new technology to his local community.

Dr. Alexander was among the first surgeons in the U.S. to acquire the WaveLight Allegretto Wave excimer laser, within months of its approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and is today one of the most experienced users of this state-of-the-art technology.

"Dr. Alexander's commitment to invest in the most advanced laser vision correction technology available today sets him apart in this industry," said Wade Tetsuka, president of WaveLight Inc. "Since converting his practice to the Allegretto he has already raised the bar for the quality of vision and patient satisfaction that can be achieved in laser vision correction today."

Dr. Alexander said he is honored by this recognition. "I'm committed to offering our patients the best possible outcomes, helping them meet their vision correction goals. Having the newest proven technology is one way that we do that. Our results have been excellent. And now, we're unique because we couple the quality of the Allegretto Wave laser with the IntraLase laser to provide a bladeless all laser LASIK procedure that is safe, effective, accurate and providing great vision for our patients.", he said.

The Alexander Eye Institute is located in Appleton, Wisconsin and serves patients from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to northern Illinois.
